Currently Obsessed With...

Salmon Sashimi
Good lord, I could eat this every day. Good salmon sashimi puts everything else on the menu to shame. Put down your California rolls and try it. I know it's twice as many points as every other kind of sashimi but it's worth it... so worth it.

TOMS Ballet Flats
My love of TOMS is no secret. Now they're making ballets flats and in doing so are fulfilling all of my needs- casual and a little bit more than casual wear. (Let's be honest, how often do I need formal shoes? Perhaps once TOMS starts making stilettos I'll change my tune.)

Cocoa Roast Almonds
I've been jamming on these babies paired with dried dates. So delicious. It's the perfect guilt-free sweet snack.
2 dried dates+about 7 almonds=2 Points+

Don't Call It a Comeback...

I'm back. It's been a while and I've been...busy.

I got a great new job
I moved to LA for that great new job
I got a dog
...and gained 25 pounds

So now I'm back to where I started from. I'm back on Weight Watchers trying to undo what I've done and get back down to my fighting weight.

You'll be hearing from me more frequently now. The only difference in that I'm coming to you from So Cal now, so look for more avocados and fewer cheese steaks.

Let's do this, shall we?!

-.5

I'm down to 172.5 this week. Hey, that's 1/2 pound less than last week so I really can't complain. But, I will. I thought it'd be more. I had a great week last week- and even stepped on the scale on Thursday for a sneak peek and was down to 169. Plus, I was really active- doing strength training on Tuesday and Wednesday and running Monday, Thursday, and Saturday.

And on Saturday I ran 5.75 miles! My furthest distance by far!

Oh well, just going to keep positive and hope that what didn't show up on the scale yesterday will be accounted for next week.

Minus 4 this week, 7 since we last talked. I'm down to 173 and it feels great.

I've been busy since my last post: a birthday, a trip back to Boston, out-of-town guests, and countless meals out. But through it all, I'm keeping my focus.

A few updates:

1) I'm planning on running a 1/2 marathon in October! I'll be running along side (or in the dust of) my brother and sister-in-law. Both are former marathoners and are as supportive as can be.

2) I picked out my bridesmaids dress for my other brothers wedding. Pictures is a size 14, but I'm ordering a 12. Risky? Yes. But that just means that I have to keep on keepin' on until August 28.

Weighed in today and I'm still at 180.

I had a great start to the week- I was a lean machine Monday through Friday. Then... the weekend happened. I went to New York and couldn't help but be a wee bit hedonistic, as is the style in the city that never sleeps.

Oh well, it was worth it.

Hoping that next week will better. Hoping I return to my angelic self.

I stayed the same at 180lbs this week. But, my scale at home broke so I used the one at the gym- in my clothes, AND after eating a granola bar (I usually weigh in in my skivvies moments after waking up) so that's totally a flawed number. Totally.

Bad

I just plowed through 4 Fiber Plus bars and now I feel like I'm going to barf. Oh, the siren song of chocolate and fiber.

I lost 4 pounds this week- which is a minor miracle considering what I had for Valentine's dinner.

I didn't get to the gym much this week thanks to the 'snowpocalypse' in Philly- so to counterbalance I tried very hard to stay on track. I counted every bite I ate, and hardly dipped into my 35 weekly points (well, until Sunday when I basically obliterated them. Totally worth it.)

My goal this week is to run a total of 15 miles. Fingers crossed!

Wardrobe Remix

One of the great things about losing weight is buying new clothes. New, smaller clothes. Clothes that look better on your new, smaller body. It's great but expensive. In an attempt to avoid buying a new wardrobe in every new size, Im trying to take the clothes I have and reimagine them in new ways and combos. (Since my boss was out of town and I could risk looking like a clown) I declared last week "Experimental Fashion Week" No new clothes here*, just new ways to wear what I already have. And now, ladies and gentlemen, I give you the reeeeeemix!

I'd like to apologize for the crappy pictures. I took them all quickly in the bathroom at work before anyone came in ask asked my why I was taking gratuitous photos of myself in the mirror like a 15 year-old on myspace.

MONDAY:
I wear this yellow jacket all the time. But here I paired it with this navy and white turtle neck that I bough months ago and literally had not, until this day, worn out of the house. I love stripes (as you will see) but am paranoid about that don't-wear-horizontal-stripes-or-you'll-look-like-a-giant-fattie rule. I think the jacket breaks it up just enough to keep the fun of the stripes but loose the blimp look. Add a jean skirt, blue tights, and brown boots. Done.Plus, I added a blue and white polka-dot pin for a fun detail. It's made from a vintage tea towel.

TUESDAY:
Tank top + turtle neck + belt=cute. Who knew. Oh- and check out those jeans. They're my first pair of non-bootleg in decades.* Helloooo slim fit. 21st century- I have arrived. Please ignore the slight muffin top in the bottom picture. They're new jeans, okay. They need time to stretch.

WEDNESDAY:

Yeah, I'm wearing a scarf like it's a bandanna. What? It's Experimental Fashion Week.

THURSDAY:
Experimental Fashion Week is tiring. I forgot to take a picture. I also forgot to dress experimentally.

FRIDAY:
Multiple pins! Skinny jeans! Blue and orange together! It must be casual Friday.

Okay. On Tuesday the scale read 184.5. I guess that'll have to do. Down 1/2 pound.

Isn't It Monday?

Isn't it Monday?

Yes.

Don't you weight in on Mondays?

Yes.

Did you weight in this morning?

Yes.

Well???

Well... I weighed in and was not satisfied with the results*. So I'm boycotting. I'm not entering my weight until the scale acts right and tells me that I've lost. Maybe tomorrow.

*I gained a 1/2 pound- up to 185.5lbs. But that's bullshit because I had a pretty solid week, and weighted 181 on Thursday and 182 on Sunday. Sorry, but I'm not accepting 185.5. I'm just not.

-1.5

I weigh in on Monday mornings.

186.5 to 185.

Down 1.5 pounds. I"ll take it.

I'm Losing It

I've totally lost it these last 7 months.

No, I haven't been in the nut house, I've been on Weight Watchers. I've lost 30 pounds since July and my goal is to lose 35 more. I've been on the plan before but never managed to lose this much, or feel this confident. I'd like to use this space to track my changes, celebrate my successes, and surely do a fair amount of bitching.

And now, let the fatty talk begin!

My Mantra

"April showers bring May flowers... April showers bring May flowers... April showers bring May flowers..."

I have to keep reminding myself that all this rain will be worth it some sunny May day.

Great Sytle Never Gets Old

Check out this photo of Emily's great grandmother at a family wedding. The dress! The hair! The accessories! I would wear this right now. Kudos, great gram- you're totally fly.

Belle of the Summit

There are a number of reasons I wouldn't want to be the German Chancellor. But, number one on my list this week would be having to keep the stylish company of Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy at the NATO summit. But I love how Chancellor Merkel steals the stage in this picture. And, she is the effing Chancellor of Germany afterall, so cut the woman some slack (or slacks! bah-dum-ching!), she's got more on her mind than fitted silhouettes and J. Crew cardigans*.

*Blasphemy! Did I just diss Michelle?! I never thought the day would come. That being said, she has more on her mind, too. I still love you, Michelle!

Wolff Olins is a branding master. But, they don't save all their great ideas for clients. Check out the fun they had with their own name.

Totally Stitchin'

There are 3 things I wish I could do better (or do, period): speak french, sing on key, and sew cute clothes for myself. Over at Thimbly Things, they've totally pushed my want to sew to the top of the list. I think I'll start with this idea to add some sass to my tired collection of cardigans.

Vision Statement

I love the vision Ellie at Mint Design has for her new place. Good luck with the move!
